Little TREASURES
004

I love the little white house that we light with a tealight whenever we want to send a greeting to a kind soul who is no longer with us.

I love the shimmering butterfly, one of the few decorative pieces in our home and one of many gifts my parents-in-law brought from Mexico. A reminder of the wonderful woman who raised one of the most important people in my life.

I love our furry friend's two toys: Quellibuh, the fabric jellyfish a shopkeeper gave her while I was waiting desperately at the taxi rank for a ride to the animal hospital. And Hinkebein, the Olympic mascot, which reminds me of a little chick in Madagascar that hopped undeterred across our host family's yard despite its injured foot.

I love my guitar, which enchanted me with its sound years ago and which doesn't fall out of tune even though I rarely play it.

I love the elegant Löwengin bottles I can't bring myself to part with, because I'm still waiting for inspiration on what else they could be used for.

I love my morning coffee, ever since our coffee machine, lovingly called Giuseppa, moved in with us. What I initially thought unnecessary is now a highlight every single day.

And Hinkebein, the mascot of the Olympic Games in France, which reminds us not only of the bizarre opening ceremony but also of its namesake: a little chick in Madagascar that hopped undeterred across our host family's yard despite its injured foot.
